HargraveSteve Hargrave - Head Coach: 15 Black
Email: s.hargrave@dallaspremier.org

Steve Hargrave picked up volleyball as a hobby in 1991. Since then, the game has held his fascination in all of its aspects. That gives Steve 20 years of volleyball experience.

He made an effort to play in college, even though the beach court in McKinney wasn’t very highly recruited, and became instantly familiar with the college recruiting process. Making his own video and calling several coaches all over the country, he finally found a home at the University of La Verne in Orange County California. La Verne played in the Pac 10 and Steve played outside against UCLA, USC, UC San Diego, Pepperdine, University of Pacific, and Stanford among others.

While in California, he decided to walk to the nearby High School and ask if they needed help. A week later, he was the JV coach for Bonita High School. Steve started coaching youth sports when he was 16. This gives him 20 years of coaching experience, 18 of it in volleyball.

When he returned to Texas the following year Steve was the captain of the Dallas Baptist University men’s club team and the team played in the Texas men’s collegiate club league. Steve began his Texas coaching career at Trinity Christian Academy and began coaching club. For the next five years, Steve coached with Dallas Summit. Steve also became a varsity high school coach for the first time at First Baptist Academy. After that he spent one year coaching at the University of North Texas and playing for the men’s club team there.

Steve moved to Arlington and took up residence at TAV and Ft. Worth Nolan Catholic School shortly after he graduated with his degree in Biblical Studies from the Criswell College. At Ft. Worth Nolan he took the Lady Vikings to the State Finals for the first time in school history and made the playoffs in each of his five years there. At TAV, Steve coached primarily in the 15′s age group qualifying 5 teams for nationals (4 of them through National Qualifiers), finishing in the Gold Bracket of the qualifiers he participated in over 90% of the time, finishing 3rd in the USAV National Tournament with the 152 team for TAV, and wining the Lone Star Qualifier twice.

Looking for more, he moved back to the Plano area and came back home to Premier led the 16 Mizuno team to a 5th place finish at the USAV Junior National Tournament in Miami. He has done over 2,500 lessons and has played and coached at some of the highest levels. However, he also recognizes the benefit of staying close to the fundamentals. He qualified TAV’s 13′s team his last year there and still has an affinity for spending time with the younger and lower level athletes.

Last year, he purchased Dallas Premier and is now co-owner of Dallas Premier.

Locally, Steve has coached high school, college, club 13′s-18′s, camps, summer leagues, at Nationals, top 20 prospects, beginners, and other coaches. He has also been on the Junior Board of Directors for the North Texas Region for 4 years as the Vice President of Competition. In this capacity, as well as in his role at TAV and Dallas Premier, he has directed and run all levels of tournaments from one day events to Ranking Tournaments and even the North Texas Regional Bid Tournament. He is currently one of five members of the Seeding Committee for USAV and is in charge of seeding certain age groups for most National Qualifiers and the Junior National Championships.
